Selection and supervision of a nursing home
Approximately one third of households Nursing in the United States were cited for abuse. Due to neglect and abuse go unreported, the actual number of facilities with staff abuse is unknown. In 2003, the United States today released statistics estimate that half of all patients in the hospital suffering from untreated pain.
For most families, nursing home become a necessity. As lovers grow, many need constant supervision and attention 24 hours.
Nursing homes offer a tour to sell their services. Do not count on the presentation that they want you to see when you are ready and on your best behavior. Make your own audit his way in his spare time, when you are not waiting.
Visit more than once and at different times of the day
Visit nursing homes is recital at odd hours. Try to visit at night and on weekends when they are most likely to be understaffed. Fall near the end of shifts, when staff is more likely to be tired and irritable.
It may seem mercenary, but I see the worst. Your loved one will have to live with them through all those hours day.
See lunchtime
Try to eat a meal with residents. They do not realize the retirement home, while the decrease in supply for pay for food if it is a problem. You are looking for quality food and see if residents attract attention and help they need while eating.
Malnutrition is a common problem in nursing homes and can be sent quickly to the elderly in a spiral of health problems.
While you visit
Pay attention to odors. Urine or fecal odors indicate that residents have not changed or washed. Neglecting basic hygiene can lead to potential infections fatal. There is also a warning sign of a different type of negligence.
T all have water? Dehydration can kill a resident of a nursing home rapidly. All residents should have water available at all times. Bedridden patients should have water handy.
Patients who can not drink without help should offer water frequently. This is not a luxury for the patients, not bonded or extra work for staff. This is one of the main reasons that households homes do not exist!
Talk with people. Reviewing your care toiletries, oral and nail care. Are they in a good mood or a majority of residents depression or confusion?
No checks accepted
Talk to your beloved people and what they think of the quality of nursing home care offers and whether they had problems with the installation.
Look at the review of the status of the nursing home. Home Care Nurses must have on hand for review.
Ask the nursing home in staffing levels. To find out how many staff work shift, how many people live in the center and how many are bedridden or in wheelchairs.
Monitoring and ensuring proper care
Even after careful selection and selecting a nursing home, problems may still occur. Unfortunately, in most cases the level of care your loved one receives directly correspond their level of participation. Maintain the flow of communication with all stakeholders in the care of his beloved, including physicians, nurses, administrators and other personal.
From the beginning, Nursing Home to let you know that observation, which will be involved, and that you know and understand the laws and what is required them. You can do this without appearing hostile or aggressive.
Federal law requires that each patient has an individual care plan. The nursing home should consult the development of this plan. If not, ask to see.
Visit often, but not on a regular schedule. Visit different days of the week and at different times of day without waiting for you. Your loved one must be thoroughly washed at least three times a week.
